The interior is industrial chic -- a rustic, natural aesthetic of reclaimed timber and distressed metals anchored by gentle, color-shifting walls. The backyard Graffiti Bar provides a unique spin on dining alfresco in the city, surrounding dinners with street art accented by plastic, metal, and chain-link fence. The resulting atmosphere is down-to-earth with a distinct urban charm.

Executive Chef and restaurateur Michael Schulson is the charismatic chef and owner of Sampan, an intimate, modern Asian restaurant in Center City, Philadelphia, and Izakaya, a modern Japanese pub in Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa.

Chef Schulson opened Izakaya in 2008, joining an all-star roster of chefs at the Borgata including Bobby Flay, Michael Mina and Wolfgang Puck, to rave reviews and immense popularity. The restaurant was named one of the “50 Best New U.S. Restaurants, 2009” by Travel + Leisure magazine and received a coveted “Three Bell, Excellent” review from The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sampan is located on 13th St. near Sansom St. in the hot Midtown Village dining zone. In addition to our seated dining room and open kitchen counter, Sampan offers two outdoor dining experiences - the backyard Graffiti Bar, a private open-air patio in the rear of the restaurant, and the sidewalk cafe in front of the restaurant.

Public Parking: Limited street parking is available, in addition to public parking lots on Sansom Street in between 12th & 13th Streets and 13th & Broad Streets. There is also a parking garage on the corner of 13th Street, in between Chestnut Street & Market Street.
